Wireless Installation Technician

Career Profile
Wireless Installation Technicians have the skills needed to install, configure, and troubleshoot wireless LAN hardware peripherals and protocols. Like Network Administrators, they gather data to identify customer needs and then use that information to identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements. They conduct site surveys and determine the proper wireless equipment necessary to ensure that the design of an organization's computer network allows all of the components, including computers, the network, and printers to fit together and work properly.

Job Outlook
The wireless network market continues to grow because of the additional productivity that wireless network access brings to any organization. Properly trained and certified individuals are needed to make networks secure, cost-effective, and reliable. The growth of electronic commerce means that more establishments use the Internet to conduct their business online. This translates into a need for information technology specialists who can help organizations use technology to communicate with employees, clients, and consumers. Explosive growth in these areas is expected to fuel demand for specialists knowledgeable about network, data, and communications security.

Salary
According to Robert Half International, starting salaries in 2003 ranged from $49,000 to $70,250. Recent salary surveys of local area employers have starting salaries in the $15.00 per hour range.
