Career Profile
Medical Imaging personnel work under the direct supervision of Radiologists or Physicians. Medical Imagers or X-ray Technicians are responsible for taking and processing x-ray film for injuries as dictated by physicians. X-ray Technicians are exposed to radiologic technology equipment and a clinical experience in their training program to prepare them for using sophisticated equipment and radiation.

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiology at Austin
Community College
License/Certification
Students are eligible to take the national credentialing examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists upon successful completion of the prescribed curriculum. The Texas Department of Health, Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification Program also requires that graduates of the Radiography Program apply for State Certification and Licensure.
Length of Training/Requirements
Once prerequisite coursework is completed, the Medical Imaging Technician training at ACC consists of a 2 year associates degree program. This program provides radiologic technology and clinical experience with general education courses in the arts and sciences and is designed to prepare persons for the safe use of x-ray equipment in clinical settings under the supervision of a radiologist or other physician.
Location of Classes
Lectures and labs are held at an ACC Campus. The required clinical training is scheduled in local healthcare providers.
